I partnered with I Still Love You New York City (ISLYNYC) for an exclusive collaboration to launch at RuPaul’s DragCon LA. Not familiar with ISLYNYC? Have a look here https://istillloveyounyc.com Carrie makes, iconic, laser-cut acrylic jewelry and glasses that Gays, Girls, Queens and everyone in-between loves!
I really wanted this project to have an updated 80’s feel. We decided to focus on 3 images from my signature pattern; the glasses, the ice cream cone and the platform pump. I also wanted the earring set to be mismatched. (truly outrageous!) The first go at the glasses was little too droopy. Carrie went with almost a direct interpretation of my print. I felt they should be a little more like actual Barbie Doll accessory glasses but, for real people. My inspo came from the 1982 Sun Gold Malibu Barbie.
Lucky for me, this “updated” version of my glasses, proved easier to manufacture. Carrie knew I wanted pink and she found the perfect shade. We kicked around the idea of smoked lenses but, I wasn’t sold. Then, I found a latex blouse in a great shade of blue. The latex blouse was a perfect 80’s update. It was also the perfect color for the lenses of the glasses.
Carrie banged out some samples and I started planning the shoot. I knew that I wanted to book Autumn Lee Studios. She’s the easiest photographer to work with. (for me) I prefer lots of direction when I’m being photographed. hahahah Next up, I needed a bottom half to my look and I needed to find something my son. I messaged Nina Kate at http://www.janedoelatex.com. I told her about my updated 80’s vision and, she created a custom bubblegum pink latex mini for me. It’s amazing. Truly. Since one week is unreasonable for 1 custom latex piece, 2 was definitely out of the question. We went back to Bondesque Minneapolis, where a baby blue, mock-neck, sleeveless dress was just unpacked alongside a bubblegum pink latex hair bow. CHA-CHING! Done and Done.
While ISLYNYC worked on production, I worked on the details of the http://www.casaglamwigs.com booth and I designed and ordered the packaging. Really long story short, the collab is fab! We sold out at DragCon and will have a second run for sale shortly.
