Last Thursday we launched our capsule collection in a Pop Up Shop at Pharmacie in Minneapolis. Pharmacie is a great modern, luxe home store with really great cards and gifts and clean line furniture. It’s glass and steel and wood and concrete and delicious! Owners Roger Barrett and Sam Beberg (who also have Hot Plate a kitschy breakfast spot in South MPLS) have curated a very select, and highly edited shop.
The Malibu Casey Pop Up is definitely a shot of color in the store…more color than Roger is used to but, colors make Sam happy. Nicole Houff’s Barbies got their own wall and made an impactful backdrop to Pharmacie’s beautiful clean lined sofa with chaise. Really, if you haven’t checked them out yet-DO IT!
I really wanted to show restraint in my use of their space. Obviously that didn’t apply to color. haha I started with painting 3 pineapple tops my signature neon-coraly-pink-red. These were placed throughout the store to carry the Malibu theme from the front door to the back of the shop. I felt like the pineapples were structured and textured enough to hold their own among Pharmacie’s treasures.
I already had a few vintage, souvenir Hawaiian salad bowls painted in the same hue. Our gift wraps were able to get mixed in with their existing papers and then Sam and Roger provided us a feature table for the rest.
Jahna Pèloquin gave us a great write up in Minnesota Monthly to help with the kick off. Nicole and I decided that Brut Rosè would be the drink of the night and we served hot pink sugared marshmallows on lollipop sticks for a sweet treat all resting upon a GORGEOUS yellow, up-cycled vintage silver tray by Julia Moss Designs. Seriously beautiful stuff! (stay tuned as we are about to do a styled shoot for Julie)
Grandma Phyllis provided DELICIOUS coconut macaroons as a “Thanks for coming!” take home nosh. It was a really fun night and mind-blowing to see everything come together. Thanks to all of my collaborators, customers, and to my mom for flying up and to Malibu Morty for listening to me ramble on endlessly over color swatches and such. The Pop Up is now down and everything is available in my Etsy shop or you can send me an email.
Thanks again for your support!
PS: A holiday gift wrap is in the works…and maybe a Sun Valley Ken ski shot…and maybe Jean of f bomb bath & shower bombs is making us a hot chocolate in the ski lodge bath bomb… 🙂
